Time ranges
A time range is a stretch of the song across one or more tracks — not whole clips, but “bars 9 to 17”. It’s how you rework the structure of a song.
Selecting a range
Section titled “Selecting a range”- ⇧-drag in the Arrangement lanes — the drag can start on empty space or on a clip. The edges snap to the grid (⌥ to place them freely).
- Right-click a section ▸ Select section to select it as a range across every track.
Working on the range
Section titled “Working on the range”| Command | Key | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Duplicate time | ⌘⇧D | Inserts a copy of the range right after it. Everything later — on every track, automation included — moves right; clips that cross the point are cut. Press again to repeat the copy. |
| Insert silence | ⌘⇧I | Opens an empty gap as long as the range at its start, pushing everything from there right. |
| Duplicate | ⌘D | Copies the range’s material on the selected tracks right after it. Nothing moves to make room. |
| Split | ⌘E | Cuts the clips at the range edges (without a range: at the playhead). |
| Consolidate | ⌘J | Replaces the material in the range with one clip per track — notes merged, audio rendered with its gain, pitch, warp and envelopes. |
| Loop | ⌘L | Sets the loop to the range and turns it on. |
| Delete | Delete | Deletes the material in the range, cutting clips at its edges. The gap stays. |
| Paste Bounced Audio | ⌘⇧V | Renders the latest range of an audio or instrument track through its whole chain (pre-fader) and pastes it as an audio clip onto the selected audio track at the playhead, over what’s there. |
Duplicate time and Insert silence act on the whole song, not only the selected tracks — they’re the way to add a bar or a chorus without shifting every track by hand. They’re also in the Edit menu and in the right-click menu of the range.
