Nota Synth

Nota Synth is the simplest instrument in Nota: one oscillator, an envelope and a filter. It is the instrument a new track gets by default, and the quickest way to a bass, a pad or a lead that sits in the mix without a fight.

Signal flow: oscillator (with unison) → amp envelope → filter → pan and gain. Up to 16 voices.

The S / L switch in the header flips the card. S shows just the filter curve and four knobs — Cutoff, Reso, Attack, Release — for quick tweaks; L has three tabs (Osc, Env, Filter) and a rail with the voice and output controls. Both sizes edit the same sound; a new Synth opens small.

Control What it does
Wave Saw, Square, Triangle or Sine
Pulse W Pulse width of the square wave
Detune Spread of the unison voices against each other
Octave −2 … +2 octaves
Unison 1, 2, 4 or 7 stacked voices per note, detuned for width

The amp envelope: Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release — drag the breakpoints on the graph or turn the knobs. Vel → Vol sets how much playing harder makes the note louder.

Control What it does
Type Off, LP (low-pass), HP (high-pass) or BP (band-pass)
Cutoff · Reso Where the filter cuts and how much it rings there — or drag the curve
Env → Cutoff How far the envelope opens the filter on each note
Control What it does
Voices Poly 16, Mono, or Legato (mono, and a note played over a held one slides without retriggering)
Glide Time to slide from one note to the next
Spread Stereo width of the unison voices
Volume · Pan Output level and position

The strip at the bottom reads the patch back in words — “Saw · unison 4 · detune 12 c”.

25 factory presets, from Init Saw to pads (Warm Pad, Glass Pad, String Ensemble, Choir Pad), basses (Rubber Bass, Sub Bass, Acid Bass, Growl Bass), leads (Super Saw, Solo Lead, Slide Lead), keys (Electric Piano, Organ Tone, Music Box) and motion (Drone, Air Sweep, Filter Sweep).

  • A quick sub bass: Sine, Mono, a short Attack and Release, Octave −1.
  • Wide pad from one oscillator: Saw, Unison 7, Detune up, Spread up, a slow Attack and Release, LP filter around the middle.
