Nota Pentad

Nota Pentad is a polyphonic analog synth in the spirit of the Sequential Prophet-5 (Rev 3). Each voice has its own drift, so chords breathe like the real thing — brassy stabs, sync leads, poly-mod bells and warm strings.

Signal flow per voice: Osc A (saw + pulse, hard-sync to B) + Osc B (saw, triangle, pulse; can run as a low-frequency LFO) + noise → mixer → 4-pole low-pass → VCA. Poly-Mod lets the filter envelope and Osc B modulate Osc A’s frequency and pulse width and the cutoff; Wheel-Mod sends the LFO and noise through the mod wheel.

Osc A and Osc B: Oct, Fine, wave shapes, pulse width, Sync (A to B), Lo freq on B (turn it into an LFO) and Kbd (B follows the keyboard or not). Glide (Off, On, Leg) and the Mode (Poly, Uni, Mono) live here too.

The 4-pole filter — Cutoff, resonance, Keytrack (0, ½, 1) and envelope amount — with its Filter env and the Amp env (A · D · S · R each). The resonance self-oscillates as a clean, playable sine; bass thins as resonance rises, as on the original — Bass comp restores it.

Poly-Mod — the filter envelope and Osc B, at audio rate, into Osc A’s frequency, Osc A’s pulse width and the filter: metallic bells and FM-like growl. Wheel-Mod — the LFO (with Free / Sync) mixed with noise, its amount plus the mod wheel, into the oscillators’ frequency and pulse width and the cutoff. Aftertouch can push the cutoff or the LFO.

Mixer: levels of Osc A, Osc B and Noise (white or pink). Output: master tune and volume, Drift (vintage per-voice spread), Noise floor, Oversampling (×2 or ×4 inside each voice), and the voice setup — 5, 10 or 16 voices, how voices are allocated, and unison stacks.

40 factory presets across strings and pads (Glass Strings, Analog Strings, Warm Pad, PWM Pad, Choir Vox, Sweep Pad, Solar Drift), basses (Pentad Bass, Sync Bass, Unison Bass, Pluck Bass, Sub Drone), leads (Sync Lead, Unison Lead, Pulse Lead, Screamer, Fifth Lead), keys (Poly Keys, Riley Organ, Clavi, Bell Keys, Harpsi), brass (Poly Brass, Soft Horns, Brass Stab, Sync Brass) and poly-mod effects (Poly-Mod Bells, Metallic Clang, Env Sync Sweep, Laser Zap).

  • Sync lead: Sync on, sweep Osc A’s pitch with the filter envelope through Poly-Mod.
  • Big chords: 10 or 16 voices with Drift up a little — every note slightly different.
