Nota Monolith

Nota Monolith is a monophonic synth laid out like the Minimoog Model D — Nota’s own DSP, faithful to how that instrument plays. Three oscillators, a mixer you can overdrive, a 24 dB ladder filter and two contour generators: fat basses, singing leads, brass.

Signal flow: Osc 1 + Osc 2 + Osc 3 + noise (+ feedback) → mixer → ladder low-pass → VCA. Osc 3 or noise can modulate the oscillators or the filter through the mod wheel.

The wheels (pitch bend, mod wheel) are always on the left.

Section Controls
Controllers Master Tune, Glide (on / off and time), Mod Mix (Osc 3 ↔ noise as the modulation source), Osc mod and Filter mod switches
Osc 1 / 2 / 3 Range (LO, 32’ … 2’), Wave (triangle, shark-tooth, saw, square, wide and narrow pulse — Osc 3 has reverse saw instead of shark-tooth), Tune ±7 semitones on Osc 2 and 3
Osc 3 kbd Off turns Osc 3 into a free-running LFO

Section Controls
Filter Cutoff, Emphasis (resonance — the ladder self-oscillates), Contour amount, keyboard tracking (⅓, ⅔)
Filter contour Attack, Decay, Sustain
Loudness contour Attack, Decay, Sustain
Decay One switch for both contours: release follows decay, as on the original

Level and on / off for each oscillator, Noise (white or pink) and Ext — the Feedback path that overdrives the mixer for growl.

Volume, Priority (low, high or last note), Legato (single trigger), Bend range (±2 … ±12), Unison voices with detune, Drift (gentle analog instability), Bass compensation, velocity to amp and filter, and an A-440 tone for tuning.

20 factory presets: basses (Taurus Bass, Fat Bass, Reese Bass, Funk Square, Rubber Bass, Sub Boom, Growl Overload), leads (Classic Lead, Hollow Lead, Screaming Lead, Portamento, Bright Lead, Soft Flute, Whistle), and more (Pulse Pad, Brass Section, Fifths Stack, Detune Unison, Sci-Fi Mod, Random Bleeps).

  • Classic lead: Osc 2 and 3 a few cents apart from Osc 1, Emphasis halfway, a short filter contour, Glide on.
  • Growl: raise the mixer Feedback until the ladder starts to bite.
